OKAPI:Orbits is an innovative German SaaS startup focused on space sustainability through satellite collision avoidance software, providing end-to-end solutions for Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Traffic Management (STM).

The Role

Develop solutions for space sustainability across Space Flight Dynamics, Space Situational Awareness, Space Traffic Management, and Space Surveillance & Tracking.

What You'll Do

• Create algorithms for orbit propagation, orbit determination, sensor fusion, and collision risk assessment

• Build operational, production-ready software using modern languages (Python, Java, C++, Fortran) with CI/CD and testing best practices

• Contribute to SSA/STM platform features from concept through deployment

• Conduct V&V campaigns using real-world datasets

• Support space agency collaborations (ESA, DLR) with documentation and compliance

• Partner with aerospace engineers, developers, and business teams

Requirements

• M.Sc. or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Space Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent SSA/SST/Flight Dynamics experience

• Minimum 2 years relevant industry experience in software or scientific programming

• Strong astrodynamics, orbital mechanics, and flight dynamics knowledge

• Proficiency writing maintainable code in compiled or high-level languages

• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, collaborative, research-driven environments

• Current Germany residency or relocation willingness

• Valid Germany/EU work permit

• Space surveillance and tracking (SST) systems experience
