Job Description

About Munich Quantum Instruments

Munich Quantum Instruments develops scalable photonic quantum sensors for breakthrough discoveries and disruptive applications such as optical quantum computers, quantum sensing, deep space optical communication, and quantum communication.

This position is available in Garching bei München or remote (for working student position).

Your Mission

As Electronics Team Lead at MQI, you will shape the future of quantum sensing by driving the development of analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics. You will own the system architecture and project execution across the full electronics stack from RF signal paths to control logic and grounding schemes. This role combines hands-on engineering, team leadership, and cross-functional coordination to translate system needs into robust, scalable electronics platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead design and integration of electronics subsystems: biasing, cryogenic readout, analog interfaces, and signal conditioning.

  • Coordinate with suppliers and external collaborators.

  • Establish and maintain quality standards, documentation, and compliance processes.

  • Mentor and grow the electronics team.

  • Drive system-level thinking with a focus on fast iteration, product maturity, and cost-awareness.

Your Profile

You are a systems thinker with deep technical expertise in electronics and a drive to bring complex products to life. You combine high standards with pragmatism, and you thrive in dynamic environments where clarity and structure must be co-created.

Your experiences include:

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.

  • 3+ years of experience in electronics design for complex systems (low-noise, RF, power electronics, cryogenic integration).

  • Proven track record of technical project management, from concept to prototype or product.

  • Comfortable with analog/digital co-design, grounding and shielding concepts, and system-level integration.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to challenge and be challenged constructively.

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small teams.
