About Black Semiconductor

The Role
Photonic Component and Circuit Designer position involving design and simulation of high-speed WDM/DWDM optical transceiver systems. Bridge component-level photonic design with system architecture to develop integrated solutions.
What You Will Do
-
Design and benchmark passive low-loss components for WDM systems
-
Develop active graphene-based components
-
Execute photonic circuit-level simulations for device optimization
-
Apply fabrication-tolerant design strategies
-
Design test structures and implement design-for-test (DFT) methods
-
Perform component and circuit layouting
-
Deliver PDK-ready components for scalable integration
Requirements
-
Required: M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field
-
3+ years of experience in integrated photonics device physics and modeling
-
Design/simulation expertise with low-loss passive and active components
-
Proven device development meeting specifications
-
Test structure development experience
-
Background in integrated photonics platforms (preferably SiN)
-
Proficiency with Lumerical products (Mode, FDTD, Interconnect)
-
Python programming and Git familiarity
Nice to Have
-
Multiplexing device knowledge (CMZI, AWG, ring resonators)
-
Optical link/circuit simulation experience
-
DFM and electronic-photonic co-design exposure
-
PDK development background
-
Layout tool proficiency (gdsfactory, Nazca, OptoDesigner)
-
Photonic device characterization lab experience
