Paris is the primary hiring hub for French defence tech, with positions concentrated in the city and its inner suburbs. Many companies listed as "Paris" are technically based in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Montrouge, La Defence or other communes within the Ile-de-France region, all within easy reach by Metro or RER. Cybersecurity and AI account for a large share of open roles, led by companies like Harmattan AI (autonomous systems), Sekoia.io (cyber threat intelligence), Quarkslab (reverse engineering and software security) and HarfangLab (endpoint detection and response).
The Paris region is also the headquarters of several of Europe's largest defence companies. Thales is based in La Defense, MBDA France and Dassault Aviation maintain major offices nearby, and Airbus Defence and Naval Group both have Paris presences. This density of both startups and primes gives the Paris area one of the deepest talent markets in European defence, particularly for software engineers, cybersecurity specialists and data analysts.
French is typically required for most roles in the Paris defence tech ecosystem, though some cybersecurity firms and internationally-focused startups operate partly in English. EU and EEA citizens can work without a visa. Non-EU nationals generally need an employer-sponsored work permit, or may qualify through the French Tech Visa. For classified work, the employer initiates the clearance process through the relevant authority. Candidates generally do not need existing clearance to apply. Paris living costs are high by French standards but generally lower than London.
