We are looking for an Export Control Specialist (m/f/d) to join our team. In this role you'll manage all communication with BAFA and customs authorities, and oversee export operations.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in dual-use goods classification and regulatory compliance, who enjoys independent work and thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for BAFA (Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control) and customs authorities

• Prepare, submit, and manage export authorization applications, including follow-up on ongoing cases

• Ensure compliance with export control and customs regulations

• Coordinate import/export documentation and logistics

• Advise on dual-use goods classification along with tracking shipments for customs compliance

• Liaise with freight forwarders and customs brokers

• Maintain records for audits and inspections & monitor changes in trade regulations

• Collaborate with legal and technical teams on documentation

• Prepare and submit customs declarations, review contracts and trade documents for compliance

• Provide basic compliance training to staff

• Handle internal customs and BAFA queries

• Contribute to risk assessments and assist in developing mitigation strategies

• Participate in cross-functional and company-wide projects as needed, providing subject-matter expertise

Requirements

• Solid experience in export operations and customs regulations

• Strong knowledge of BAFA procedures and export licensing

• Familiarity with dual-use goods classification and related compliance standards

• Good understanding of international trade laws and regulatory frameworks

• Proficient in communicating with authorities in both German and English
