The United Kingdom has unveiled the Atlantic Bastion programme, a comprehensive initiative combining autonomous vessels, artificial intelligence, and advanced sensor networks to protect British and NATO interests in the North Atlantic.

The programme addresses growing concerns about Russian submarine modernization and threats to critical undersea cables and pipelines. It features AI-powered acoustic detection systems, unmanned surface and underwater platforms, and an integrated digital targeting network connecting Royal Navy assets.

With £14 million in combined MOD and industry investment committed for 2025, and private sector matching at a 4:1 ratio, the first capabilities are scheduled for water deployment in 2026.
