Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Your Role As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead mechanical design activities for nano and microsatellite systems. You will take ownership of design concepts, conduct detailed analyses, and ensure that mechanical solutions meet mission requirements and manufacturing constraints.

About the team You'll be part of GomSpace's Mechanical Engineering team in Luxembourg, working on cutting‑edge satellite platforms. You'll collaborate with systems engineers, electrical engineers, thermal specialists, and manufacturing teams to deliver high‑quality spacecraft.

Your Tasks

• Lead mechanical design of satellite structures, mechanisms, and mechanical subsystems.

• Conduct structural analysis, finite‑element analysis (FEA), and thermal analysis.

• Develop design concepts and conduct design trade studies.

• Ensure designs meet requirements and are optimized for performance, cost, and manufacturability.

• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings and design documentation.

• Interface with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure producibility.

• Support testing activities and troubleshoot mechanical issues.

• Mentor junior team members.

• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of mechanical design experience for spacecraft, aerospace systems, or similar complex technical products.

• Expert‑level knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

• Strong background in CAD (CATIA, Solidworks, NX, or similar) and analysis tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, or similar).

• Experience with structural and thermal analysis.

• Strong understanding of space systems and spacecraft design constraints.

• Excellent communication and leadership skills.

• Ability to mentor and lead technical teams.

• Proficiency in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with satellite or spacecraft mechanical design.

• Knowledge of space standards (ECSS, NASA, ESA).

• Experience with advanced materials and manufacturing technologies.

• Background in product development and design optimization.

• Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT).
