Hardware Network Engineer
Job Description
What we do (and why it matters):
Swarmer is Ukraine's leading company in the field of collaborative swarm autonomy, recognized for creating advanced dual-use AI solutions for the defense sector.
Tested in Ukrainian context, our unique software enables drone swarms to autonomously execute complex missions, from monitoring critical infrastructure to protecting both civilian and military assets, translating high-level objectives into highly coordinated actions.
Our next milestone: scalable autonomy of up to 690 drones under the effective control of a single operator.
Let the drones do it!
What we're looking for:
We are looking for an Hardware Network Engineer (MESH) to design, build, and optimize the networking layer that powers our autonomy platform.
This role blends embedded systems expertise with advanced networking — ensuring our radios, MESH protocols, and routing logic are secure, resilient, and seamlessly integrated with our autonomy stack. You'll work at the intersection of hardware and software, enabling reliable communication across swarming drones and distributed autonomous systems.
You'll be a good fit if you have:
-
4+ years of experience as an Embedded Network Engineer or in a similar role.
-
Strong wireless networking expertise, with a focus on mesh protocols (e.g., 802.11s, B.A.T.M.A.N., OLSR, or similar).
-
Hands-on experience with embedded systems, radios, and networking modules (Wi-Fi, LTE/5G, SDR, etc.).
-
A solid understanding of hardware–software integration in resource-constrained environments.
-
Proven ability to diagnose and resolve wireless connectivity, routing, and interference issues in multi-node networks.
-
Familiarity with secure communications and resilience techniques (encryption, anti-jam, anti-spoofing, etc.).
-
Experience with mission-critical or field-deployed systems (a strong plus).
-
English level: B2 or higher.
What you'll do:
-
Design, implement, and optimize embedded networking solutions with a strong focus on MESH networking protocols (802.11s, BATMAN, OLSR, etc.) for distributed autonomous systems.
-
Develop and test embedded hardware/software integrations for radios, single-board computers, and networking modules.
-
Configure, tune, and validate wireless MESH communication stacks to ensure low-latency, resilient links in contested or unstable environments.
-
Troubleshoot and debug link reliability, interference, and routing issues across multi-node MESH topologies.
-
Maintain and update networking firmware, drivers, and protocol stacks to ensure security, performance, and scalability.
-
Contribute to resilience and security hardening of communication channels against jamming, spoofing, or interception.
-
Collaborate closely with autonomy, DevOps, and security teams to integrate the networking layer into the overall swarm platform.
What you'll get:
-
A chance to design and secure the physical backbone of our autonomy platform at the heart of Ukraine's defense tech ecosystem and its international expansion.
-
Direct impact in a high-stakes industry where reliable network hardware decisions have real-world consequences.
-
Professional growth through exposure to cutting-edge autonomous systems and international best practices in hardware and network engineering.
-
Competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package (insurance, paid sick leave, 20 paid days off per year).
-
Advantages of working in the defense sector (reservation and related benefits).
-
Flexible remote work options where possible.
Our team is direct, moves fast, and doesn't waste time on performative nonsense. If you want a company with seven layers of approval and endless consensus-building, this isn't it. If you want to do the most important work of your career with people who say what they mean and execute, let's talk.
Ready to Apply? If you're excited about solving complex challenges and eager to contribute to the future of collaborative autonomy, we'd love to contact you!
