The company's core technology is its Free Energy Minimizing (FEM) world model, a hierarchical AI architecture that enables autonomous machines to plan and act under uncertainty using very limited training data. Unlike large language models or deep learning systems, FEM agents continuously update their internal world model to minimise the gap between predicted and actual sensory input, producing explainable, interrogatable decision-making that can run on edge hardware. The company has demonstrated the technology on autonomous drones, showing three distinct real-world navigation missions without reliance on cloud infrastructure.

Stanhope AI has run demonstrations for the Royal Navy and a year-long testing programme with SPRIN-D, Germany's Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation, testing delivery drones in unforeseen environments. In March 2024 the company raised £2.3 million, led by UCL Technology Fund with Moonfire Ventures and Rockmount Capital. In February 2026 it closed an $8 million seed round led by Frontline Ventures, with Paladin Capital Group, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund, UCL Technology Fund and MMC Ventures participating.
