Job Description

Come and build the world's first commercial autonomous one-wheeled security robot — 1Rollo! šŸ¤–

Rollo Robotics is developing the next generation of autonomous outdoor robots designed for 24/7 operations, aimed at revolutionizing routine security patrols. At the core of our technology is 1Rollo — a unique robot platform that combines patented stabilization technology, edge AI, and advanced autonomous navigation.

We have successfully moved past the initial prototyping phase and are now scaling 1Rollo into a production-ready product for the global market. We are looking for a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to own and drive the development of our robot's control software and autonomy stack.

We are not looking for a code-cutter to just "sit on a couch at home." We want a Senior Engineer who wants to be at the absolute epicenter of deep-tech development. While your daily base can be our Tallinn office, the real hardware prototyping and field testing happen at our Viljandi R&D center and test lab. Here, your code won't just sit on a server — it will physically drive a real robot, enabling it to move and make decisions in real-time outdoor environments!

Your Core Stack & Focus:

  • Expert-level C++ programming skills and software architecture design from scratch.

  • NVIDIA Jetson platforms and real-time operating systems (RTOS).

  • Sensor fusion (IMU, VIO, GPS, stereo vision, etc.) and autonomous navigation.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Developing autonomous driving software and overall control system architecture.

  • Designing and optimizing navigation, path planning, and obstacle avoidance systems.

  • Processing data from various sensors (cameras, IMU, GPS/RTK) and implementing object detection.

  • Optimizing AI/ML models to run efficiently on-edge (on the robot).

  • Creating robust simulation environments and testing tools.

  • Field-testing and integrating algorithms directly on the robots at our Viljandi test lab.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Proven experience in robotics or autonomous systems development.

  • Solid understanding of computer vision, edge AI, or machine learning.

  • Deep knowledge of Linux and embedded systems.

  • You already reside in Estonia and are comfortable communicating in English (Estonian language skills are a plus).

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Autonomous vehicles, drones, or mobile robots.

  • SLAM, localization, and advanced motion planning.

  • Reinforcement learning.

  • Simulation environments (Gazebo, Isaac Sim, or similar).

You Will Thrive in Our Team If:

  • You want to build something that has never been done before in the world.

  • You are highly autonomous and love taking full ownership of your architectural decisions.

  • You enjoy solving complex technical problems and want to see the immediate, physical impact of your work.

What We Offer:

  • A unique opportunity to shape the technical direction of a world-first autonomous robot platform.

  • A small, fast-paced, and highly ambitious deep-tech engineering team.

  • State-of-the-art hardware, development environments, and a clear path to scale globally.
