Job Description
About the Team
Mission Simulation is STARK’s digital proving ground — the tactical environment where our entire ecosystem of UAVs, surface vessels, and EW systems converges. The Mission Simulation team is a small, specialized group based in Munich, working closely with our platform and C2 teams to integrate all multi-domain assets into high-fidelity, Software-in-the-Loop simulators.
We move fast, ship realistic environments, and build for three core purposes: rigorous testing, high-stakes demos, and tactical training. There is no room for gamification. We simulate the reality of combat — from complex swarm logic to EW degradation — ensuring that developers can fail fast, and real soldiers can train safely before hitting the battlefield.
Your Mission
As our Field Service & Support Engineer for Mission Simulation, you are STARK's on-the-ground expert for our tactical training environments. You will travel to military bases, training facilities or other customers, and test ranges to physically deploy our simulation rigs, install major software releases, and provide hands-on technical support. You ensure that our high-fidelity simulators run flawlessly in the field, directly empowering operators to train effectively without technical interruptions.
Responsibilities
Deploy and assemble complex simulation hardware (high-end PCs, networking gear, VR systems, HOTAS controllers) at customer sites and external field locations.Install and configure the latest simulation software releases (e.g., VBS4, custom STARK modules) on deployed systems to ensure customers have the most up-to-date tactical environments.Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, operating system, and network bottlenecks on-site to minimize simulator downtime during critical training sessions or high-stakes demos.Document field feedback, software bugs, and user requests meticulously, acting as the direct feedback loop between the customer and the Mission Simulation engineering team in Munich.Maintain the operational readiness of all deployed simulator assets through scheduled maintenance and proactive hardware checks.
Required Skills
-
Degree/Apprenticeship in IT, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical field experience (e.g., Fachinformatiker).
-
3+ years of experience in field service, IT deployment, or on-site technical support for complex hardware-software setups.
-
Strong hands-on administrative skills across Windows and Linux OS and physical PC/Server hardware.
-
Exceptional customer-facing communication skills with the ability to remain calm and methodical when troubleshooting under pressure.
-
High willingness to travel frequently to customer sites, military locations, and exhibitions.
Nice-To-Have
-
Prior experience as a Field Service Representative in the defense sector or familiarity with military training environments.
-
Practical knowledge of professional simulation engines (e.g., VBS4, Unreal Engine, Unity).
-
Fluent English and German, preferably at C1/C2 level or above.
