Job Description

Location:

We are hiring for Emebdded Software Engineers at all career levels and are very happy to recieve application from Junior, Mid-Level, Senior, Principal & Team Lead level Embedded Engineers.

About Us

DTC | A Codan Company develops advanced wireless communication technology used in some of the world's most demanding environments.

From software-defined radios and high-performance wireless networks to communications for defence, uncrewed systems, government and broadcast applications, our engineers work on complex products where software, electronics and RF come together.

We're looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Whiteley.

This could suit an experienced embedded engineer looking for a new technical challenge, or someone earlier in their career who has strong C/C++ fundamentals and wants to develop deeper expertise in embedded systems.

What you'll be working on

You'll develop embedded software for our wireless communication products, working closely with engineers across software, electronics, RF and other specialist disciplines.

Your work will include:

  • Developing embedded software in C and C++

  • Working with SoC-based hardware platforms

  • Developing, integrating and testing new product features

  • Debugging software and hardware interactions

  • Getting hands-on with electronics and laboratory test equipment

  • Working alongside hardware and RF engineers to solve complex system-level problems

  • Contributing across the development lifecycle, from early development through integration and testing

You'll be working on physical products rather than software in isolation, so you'll be able to see your code running on real hardware and understand how it contributes to the performance of the overall system.

You'll also have opportunities to build knowledge in areas such as embedded Linux, RF, software-defined radio and advanced wireless communications.

What we're looking for

We're interested in engineers who enjoy understanding how things work, solving difficult technical problems and working close to the hardware.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience programming in C and C++

  • A good understanding of embedded software development

  • Experience working with, or an interest in, hardware/software integration

  • Confidence debugging technical problems and using electronic test equipment

You might already be working as an Embedded Software Engineer, Firmware Engineer or Electronics/Software Engineer.

We're also open to candidates earlier in their career with a relevant degree in Electronics, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related discipline and strong embedded programming experience.

Useful, but not essential

You don't need to arrive knowing everything.

Experience or exposure in any of the following would be useful:

  • Embedded Linux

  • System-on-Chip platforms

  • FPGA/VHDL

  • CI/CD and automated build environments

  • Software security

  • IP networking or communications systems

  • RF or software-defined radio

  • Real-time or high-performance embedded systems

Experience in RF or defence is not essential. If you're a strong embedded engineer interested in learning the communications side, we'd like to hear from you.

Why DTC?

Interesting engineering

You'll work on sophisticated wireless products combining embedded software, electronics, RF and signal processing rather than spending your time maintaining a conventional software application.

Real products, real impact

The software you develop runs on physical communication systems used across defence, government, uncrewed platforms and broadcast applications around the world.

Work alongside specialists

Our multidisciplinary engineering teams include embedded software, RF, electronics and signal-processing expertise, giving you the opportunity to learn beyond your immediate specialism.

Develop your technical career

We take a personal approach to training and development and provide opportunities to build expertise in areas including embedded Linux, RF and advanced communications technology.

Benefits

Our employees receive:

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays

  • Company pension with matching up to 9%

  • Company bonus scheme

  • Flexible core working hours

  • Annual pay reviews

  • Personal training and development

  • Income protection

  • Life assurance

  • Employee Assistance Programme

  • Modern working environment in Whiteley

  • Onsite subsidised café

You'll also be joining a global organisation with engineering and technology teams across the UK, USA, Denmark, Singapore, Dubai and Australia.

Security Clearance

Due to the nature of some of our work, successful applicants will need to be willing and eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.

Interested?

If you enjoy embedded C/C++, working close to hardware and solving problems where software meets electronics, we'd like to hear from you.
