What Germany is building in defence tech (2026)
Apr 30
HAT.tec was founded in 2018 in Neubiberg near Munich as a spin-off from the Bundeswehr University Munich and its Institute of Flight Systems. Co-founders Yannick Brand, Fabian Schmitt and Prof. Axel Schulte identified a gap between research in human-autonomy teaming and what industry was actually shipping, and built the company to close it. Both Brand and Schmitt serve as Co-CEOs; the company became EN9100 and ISO 9001 certified in 2020 and was recertified in 2022.
