Job Description
At Orqa, we’re building technology that allows humans and machines to see the world like never before. We bring together engineers, creators, and innovators who push the boundaries of what’s possible – from cutting-edge FPV systems to advanced Remote Reality solutions, and toward the next generation of robotics. And behind every great technology, there’s great organization.
We’re looking for a Mid/Senior Mechatronics Engineer to design, build, and optimize automated tether management systems for our unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
In this role, you’ll drive the development at the intersection of mechanical design, high-voltage power electronics, and control systems to build intelligent, high-reliability winch stations. You will own major sub-systems, write embedded firmware, solve complex thermodynamic challenges, and ensure our tether systems provide continuous power and dynamic tension control for extended drone operations in extreme environments.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
-
Lead or own the design of major sub-systems (such as automated tension-sensing mechanisms, spooling systems, and level-winders)
-
Write and tune embedded control firmware (C/C++) and implement closed-loop control algorithms to actively manage tether tension
-
Select, integrate, and customize critical electromechanical components, including BLDC motors, slip rings, and high-precision sensors
-
Address high-voltage power routing, friction mitigation, and complex thermal dissipation within the winch architecture
-
Define testing standards, lead rigorous lab and field validation, and ensure systems meet aerospace/military reliability requirements
-
Collaborate with external suppliers for custom components and mentor junior engineers within the mechatronics team
WHAT WE EXPECT
-
3+ years (Mid) or 6+ years (Senior) of relevant professional experience in mechatronics, robotics, or electromechanical product development
-
B.S. or M.S. in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
-
Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, Fusion 360) and deep mechanical design fundamentals
-
Strong experience in embedded systems, firmware (C/C++), and motor control implementation (PID control, motor drivers)
-
Proven track record in thermal management, power transmission, and complex system integration
-
Strong technical leadership, analytical problem-solving skills, and professional working proficiency in English
NICE TO HAVE
- Prior experience working with robotics, UAVs, or automated winding/spooling machinery
